GAME REPORT

04.09.2005

Zoran Kovacevic (Serbia & Montenegro Coach): We played well in some periods and badly in some periods. Even our rival had a 14 - 0 run at one point. But finally we were able to find a balance in the game and finally were able to win. We had 3 games in a row and we won 2 of them and we will have 2 tough games more. Our goal is to struggle and fight and win these games.

Jelena Skerovic (Serbia & Montenegro): I would like to congratulate both my team and Romanian team for the good game. Sometimes we lost our concentration and Romania was ahead in some parts of the game. However like my coach said we were able to win the game thanks to the success of our system.

Valerian Ioan (Romania Coach): I do not want to make an excuses for our loss by using our team's young age and lack of experience. But it is  true that my team’s youth and the lack of international exprience caused problems also in this game. Nevertheless, we made a good effort in the last period. Hopefully we will be in the first 9 teams.

Ildiko Vass (Romania): We played a balanced game against Serbia & Montenegro. In spite of my injury I think that I played quite well. I hope that we will have several victories in the next games. Our team is pretty new and we lack of international experience. We have 3 defeats. Although the next matches seem very difficult to us, everything is possible.

Serbia & Montenegro have bounced back following their opening defeat by winning consecutive games after Sunday's 63-50 triumph over Romania in Izmir.

An upset looked to be on the cards when Romania went on a 19-3 run to lead 41-38 with a minute to go in the third quarter.

Guards Annemarie Parau and Ildiko Vass had been the inspiration in that spurt.

However, they were unable to keep the momentum going for the rest of the contest.

Their undoing came in the last three minutes when Serbia & Montenegro outscored them 11-0.

Monika Veselovski led Serbia & Montenegro with 15 points while Vass had a game-high of 19 points and seven rebounds in defeat.

Serbia & Montenegro did a lot of damage from the free throw line, making 18 of 28 free-throws, many of them late in the fourth quarter.

Romania take on Turkey on Tuesday while Zoran Kovacic's side meet Spain.
