Betty Cebrian will not be able to help her companions on court at the EuroBasket but the most capped Spanish player will still be doing all she can from the side of the court.
Cebrian, 34, who announced the end of her playing career after 252 appearances for her country, is in Turkey with the squad working as one of the physiotherapists for Domingo Diaz's side.
"Physically the squad is in great shape," she told the Spanish basketball federation website, www.feb.es.
"All of the problems have been slight and they have hardly given me any work," she said.
"That is great news for the team."
Cebrian admits she needed time to adapt to her now role and says that one of the biggest problems has been remembering she is not leading the way as the team's big center.
"I was very attentive in the first training sessions and they even had to tell me I didn't need to learn all of the systems, because I was not playing," she said.
"The fact is it was hard to change the 'chip'."
However, her experience is important in giving advice to the current players as Spain prepare to start their campaign against Lithuania on September 2.
"I always tell the players that in these days they should try and disconnect a bit and not worry too much about the debut.
"The most important thing now is to control your nerves.
"Everyone has trained well and is in good shape, so I think we have a good chance of qualifying for the World Championships."
