French Are Finding Their Rhythm

France center Emmeline Ndongue is confident she and her team-mates are improving quickly enough to challenge for medals at the EuroBasket Women.

Ndongue and Co defeated Latvia 67-50 on Sunday.

Les Bleues are second in group A and just one point behind the team that beat them on opening day, the Czech Republic.

After wins over Greece and now Latvia, Alain Jardel's troops are getting closer to the quarter-finals with most players convinced the team has yet to show its real potential.

"We imposed our game both on defence and attack (against Latvia), and did what we had to do," said Dongue.

"We are gradually imposing our game and pace. We are getting better and better."

France did struggle early on against Latvia.

"At some point we got carried away in this match and lost some concentration, but we won with a better style this time and the win is going to do us good," Sauret-Gillespie told www.lequipe.fr.

The French women won the European title in 2001 as hosts, but were knocked out at the quarter-final stage in 2003.

They had a promising build-up to this year's event, but did not find their rhythm against the Czechs.

Shooting guard Sandra Le Drean added: "We just need to sort out our problem of consistency and try to find our pace, that's what our game relies on.

"But I think we are definitely on the right track. That's more and more positive."

France next face Poland on Tuesday before taking on Germany the next day.

"That type of game reassures a team," added center Sandra Dijon.

"It was very physical but we knew it and we were prepared for that. We were solid.

"There are two matches left, and we are going to have to win them. The mission is not yet accomplished."

The quarter-finals will get underway in Ankara on Thursday.
