Having won the Baltic Sea competition, the Finland women's team came back to earth with a bump in a four-team tournament in Lithuania, involving the host country, Latvia and Ukraine.

Despite the slump, Finnish coach Risto Piipari was still pleased with his squad's overall performance.

"We knew coming into the tournament that we had good teams againts us," said Piipari.

"These are exactly the games we need.

"We've been able to develop our rebound play and the team is still learning, which is the most important thing."

In the Baltic Sea matches, Finland beat Estonia 81-73, Sweden 73-68, and Latvia 96-77, but it was a different story when they met Latvia again last Saturday.

Latvia won 84-79, with Finnish star Elina Pasola hitting 24 points.

The match-up against Ukraine was even tougher.

Ukraine surprised Finland in the first quarter with their fast and aggressive game which caused many turnovers.

While Finland held on in the final three quarters, the gap from the first quarter (29-10) couldn't be closed, with Ukraine eventually running out 85-60 winners.
