Montañana Earns Player Of The Week

17.12.2005

It's been a good two weeks for Spanish side Ros Casares Valencia.

In the last round of EuroLeague Women games before the Christmas break, the Spanish side recorded their second consecutive victory and seem to have their season right back on track.

Last week saw Brazilian center Alessandra Santos pick up Player of the Week honours and this week the award goes to team-mate Anna Montañana.

Montañana came up with her best performance of the competition in Valencia's 70-61 road victory over USK Praha, racking up 26 points and 10 rebounds, both season highs.

A native of Valencia, Montañana took a slightly unusual route to further her basketball career, electing to go to the USA and enrolling at George Washington University in 2001.

The decision proved to be a fruitful one and Montañana left as one of the Atlantic 10's top players, averaging 16.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.9 apg and 2.4 spg in her senior season.

Her return to Europe co-incided with EuroBasket Women 2005 and Montañana was a part of Spain's bronze medal winning side, putting up 11 ppg and 5 rpg in 8 games.

The EuroLeague Women has been a tougher nut to crack for Montañana, but in her first season in Europe's toughest club competition, Montañana now seems to have found her comfort level and will figure to be a major part of her new team's 2006 goals.
