Bednarova Reflects On One Of Biggest Shots Of Career

07.11.2008

Markéta Bednarova has played in EuroBaskets and at the Olympics with the Czech Republic but it's hard to imagine the 28-year-old enjoying herself anymore than last Saturday when she gave Prague a rare win against rivals Gambrinus Sika Brno.

Nothing is sweeter than winning a game at the end, and Bednarova did for Prague with a three-pointer - her fourth of the game - to give her side a 70-68 victory and preserve their status as the only unbeaten side in the Czech ZBL.

"It was a very difficult game for both of the teams," Bednarova said.

"Brno was ready to start the game with their confidence higher after their win over CSKA Moscow while we entered the Brno court with the disadvantage of our (76-70) defeat at JBS Jolly Sibenik.

"At the end of the game, though, I felt that our team wanted to win more than Brno."

Bednarova, when asked to describe the final moments, had this to say.

"At the very end, we were able to take advantage of some inaccuracies in Brno´s defense that allowed us to cut the deficit to one. Then we played offense, Lindsay (Whalen) drove baseline to attack the basket, Brno trapped her there and she managed to pass the ball to me and I hit the three!

"What a joy!"

Teams can't celebrate wins for too long, though.

Prague were reminded of that on Wednesday in the EuroLeague Women when they crashed to their third defeat in four games with star center Sonja Kireta injured an unable to play.

UMMC Ekaterinburg beat Blazek's team 94-64.

Blazek will be hoping for better on Friday night against Spartak Praha before taking on Lotos PKO BP Gdynia.

"We have to keep working and getting ready for Gdynia," he said.
