Le Drean Commits To Prague

07.05.2007

Sandra Le Drean has given USK Prague a huge boost by agreeing a new two-year deal that will keep her at the Czech outfit until 2009.

The France international - she co-captains the team - decided to stay after the club made it clear she was an integral part of their plans.

USK wants to build a really good team for the next few seasons and I want to be part of it.

"We have signed Sandra for the next two seasons," said Prague general manager Marek Kucera.

The 29-year-old forward enjoyed enormous success at Valenciennes, with whom she played from 2000-2005, winning the EuroLeague Women crown in 2002 and 2004 and the French domestic title in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.

She joined Prague in April last year but found continental silverware harder to come by as her new team went out of the EuroLeague Women at the eighth-final play-off stage to Spartak Moscow Region.

Le Drean contributed 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in European competition.

She admitted she had been offered the chance to return to France but opted to stay in the Czech capital.

"I had many offers, mainly from France," said Le Drean, after penning the deal.

"But the interest from Prague was the most interesting one for me.

"I believe we will have more success next year. USK wants to build a really good team for the next few seasons and I want to be part of it."

One of the highlights of Le Drean's first year in Prague was the 81-79 defeat of Gambrinus Sika Brno - Brno's first defeat domestically for nine years.
